Was a barrister (1928) from England. Played tennis, hockey and golf.
Took active part in ‘Quit India’ Movement (1942).
Held various portfolios as Minister for Electricity, Education, Agriculture etc. from 1966 to 1974 in Central Government.
Became the President of India from 1974 to 1977.
‘Emergency’ in India was clamped during his Presidentship.
