  • Took part in Gandhiji’s Non-co-operation Movement in 1921.
  • Studied in the Kashi Vidyapeeth and graduated with the title of ‘Shastri’.
  • Joined servants of the People Society of Lala Lajpat Rai in 1926.
  • Held various portfolios like Railways, Transport, Commerce and Industry, Home Affairs etc. in the cabinet of Government of India.
  • Indo-Pak War of 1965 took place during his tenure. Signed ‘No-war’ agreement at Tashkent where he died because of heart attack.
  • Gave the country the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kishan’.
  • Was posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna in 1966.
