Was influenced by C. Rajagopalachari and has worked in his Cabinet as Minister for Finance, Education and Law in the government of Tamilnadu.
Has worked as Minister for Steel and Heavy Industry in Nehru’s Cabinet and Minister for Food and Agriculture in Lal Bahadur Shastri’s Cabinet.
Spearheaded the ‘Green Revolution’ and made a great contribution in making India self-sufficient in the matter of food.
Has also worked as the Finance Minister during ‘Emergency’.
Has worked as Deputy Chair-person of the Planning Commission of India.
Was appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra in 1992.
Headed ‘Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’ and the ‘Ramkrishna Mission’ during various periods.
Was awarded ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1998.
