Was a stage actor of Parsee stage.
Set up a Stage Film Company in 1935.
Launched Minerva Movitone Company in 1936.
Minerva Movitone was famous for the triology – Pukar (1939), Sikandar (1941) and Prithvi Vallabh (1943).
His other famous movies are Jailor (1938), Bharosa (1940), Parakh (1944) and Jhansi-ki-Rani (1953).
His last famous movie Mirza Ghalib (1954) received President’s Gold Medal in 1954.
Was a member of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1960.
Received Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1970.
