Translated Omar Khayyam’s ‘Rubaiyat’ and Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Othelo and also the Bhagvad Gita.
Is famous for his poem ‘Madhushala’.
Is the father of Amitabh Bachchan, a superstar of Bollywood cinema.
Received Sahitya Akademi Award in 1968.
Was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1976.
Was honoured with Saraswati Samman, the Sovietland Nehru Award and the Lotus Award of the Afro-Asian Writers’ conference for his unique contribution to the world of letters.
