Is honoured with doctorate by Benares Hindu University and Shanti Niketan.
Has been bequeathed with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1956 and The Tansen Award of Madhya Pradesh Government.
Has played in UK, USA, Europe and many countries of the world.
Received Padma Shri in 1961, Padma Bhushan in 1968 & Padma Vibhushan in 1980.
Has been awarded Bharat Ratna in 2001.
