- Elected ten times as member in Parliament since 1971 till date.
- Is a distinguished Parliamentarian for about three and half decades and hence he was honoured with the 'Outstanding Parliamentarian Award 1996'.
- Through his initiative the proceedings of the 'zero hour' of Parliament are being telecast live from 5th July, 2004.
- Another initiative he took is the launching of two dedicated satellite channels for televising the proceedings of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha from 14th December, 2004.
