- He was the first
(1) Indian Cadet to receive the King's Commission (1919) (2) To enter the Staff College in Queta, Baluchistan (1933) (3) To be promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel (1942) (4) Commander-in-Chief of Indian Army (15-1-1949) (5) Indian student at the Imperial Defence College at UK (6) To be honoured as Field Marshall (1986). - He served in
(1) Mesopotamia from 1920-1922 (2) Waziristan from 1922-1925 (3) Campaigned in Iraq, Syria & Iran from 1941 to 1942. - In 1945, he won the award of Order of British Empire (OBE).
- He was honoured with many other awards too.
