- Was Chief Minister of Madras from 1937 to 1939 and 1952 to 1954.
- Was the first Indian Governor-General of Independent India from June 1948 to January 1950.
- Has abridged & translated into English two great epics the 'Ramayan' and the 'Mahabharat'.
- Was awarded Sahitya Akademy Award for his 'Mahabharat'.
- Was honoured with 'Bharat Ratna' in 1954.
