• Became a centre of controversy in Defence purchase of Bofors tanks.
• Was assassinated in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu in 1991.
• Was awarded 'Bharat Ratna' posthumously in 1991. A magnificient memorial named 'Veer Bhumi' was constructed at his cremation spot.
