- Is the daughter of Dinanath Mangeshkar and younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar.
- Is a Bollywood playback singer for last 60 years and has sung for more than 800 Bollywood films.
- Has sung songs for many other Indian languages and some foreign languages too.
- Has won seven 'Filmfare Awards' and two 'Indian National Awards' in 1981 & 1986.
- Was nominated for 'Grammy Award' in 1997 for 'Legacy', an album with Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
- Has won 14 Maharashtra State Awards.
- Has also won numerous other awards such as 'Nightingale of Asia Award' from the Indo-Pak Association, UK in 1987, 'Singer of the Millennium' at Dubai in 2000, 'BBC Lifetime Achievement Award' in 2002 etc.
- Was awarded 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' in 2001 for her outstanding contribution to the Indian Cinema.
- Received Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
