The traditional Wisden Cricketer of the year award is given every year to the best cricket player of the world. It was instituted in 1889 by John Wisden & Company which publishes Wisden Cricketer's Almanack, the most famous reference book on Cricket published from UK. It was founded in 1864 by the English cricketer John Wisden (1826-1884), and its annual publication has continued uninterrupted to the present day, making it the longest running sports annual in history.
